The program was part of a CalCPA community outreach effort designed to improve Californians' financial literacy. Certified public accountants from the Sacramento area conducted the workshop, held at the state capitol.
"In the past few years, CalCPA members have been conducting community outreach programs, many of them in cooperation with state legislators, to provide information that will help individuals make better financial decisions," said CalCPA CEO Loretta Doon. "The presentation to legislative staff gave them a forum in which to ask questions about their own financial concerns as well as an opportunity to see how such programs can aid the communities they serve."
CalCPA financial outreach efforts primarily consist of two programs: Dollars & Sense, in which CPAs discuss financial topics before local community groups, and a high school student education program, in which CPAs visit classrooms to conduct financial lessons.
CalCPA also produces monthly "Financial Empowerment" podcasts about important financial issues.
